About

Engineers Without Borders – USA” is a non-profit humanitarian organization that partners with developing communities worldwide in order to improve their quality of life through the implementation of environmentally and economically sustainable engineering projects.

The “Chicagoland Professional Chapter” is a group of local professional engineers that works with partner communities around the world and engineering students in the Chicagoland region – to plan, finance, oversee and implement forward-thinking engineering projects in disadvantaged regions.

The close relationship between engineering professionals and students ensures quality in design and implementation, while developing the next generation of internationally responsible engineering students.

Partner communities are vital to every project’s success. EWB-USA-CPC works closely with community leaders and local organizations to ensure that those who will benefit from each project are part of the process. Instead of working for a community, EWB works with them to help solve their unique engineering needs.

EWB-USA-CPC is composed of several committees, which direct the day-to-day activities of the chapter’s endeavors.

The “University Liason” committee, maintains relationships with local student chapters. This committee attends student chapter meetings, communicates student “needs” to the professional chapter and matches student chapters to professional members, who can provide technical expertise. The “University Liason” committee also assists the student chapters with project management and fundraising.

The “Projects” committee of EWB-USA-CPC oversees the development and implementation of chapter projects. It manages and schedules the tasks of each project, from site evaluation to implementation.

The “Research and Training” committee’s role is to meet the information needs of the chapter in support of the project teams.  The R&T committee arranges chapter presentations; facilitate training workshops; conducts research, technology evaluations and prototyping projects; and maintains a library of technical information.

Other chapter committees include: social, fundraising, membership, communications & executive.
